At Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC), the goal is simple, yet inspired.

"Our sole concern at SCC is to help a child in need," says Bruton Smith, chairman of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. and founder of SCC.

Smith established SCC as a memoriam to his late son, Bruton Cameron Smith, who sadly passed away at a very young age. Moved to act by his loss, Smith became passionate about helping children in need and SCC was created to aid children in communities surrounding SMI facilities in Atlanta, Bristol, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Sonoma and Texas.

Throughout the years, SCC has grown to fund thousands of organizations nationwide that help children directly, assisting with everything from educational support to providing basic needs, like clothing and nutritional meals. The mission of Speedway Children’s Charities remains true to the ideals it was founded upon: To care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives. Our vision is that every child has the same opportunities no matter what obstacle they are facing.

Challenges ranging from learning disabilities, broken homes and childhood cancer are on the agenda for the local chapters of SCC and the over 500 non-profit organizations we support nationally. Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, the Atlanta Chapter was able to distribute nearly $350,000 to 28 local charities at its annual grant ceremony in December, 2007.

Atlanta Chapter grant requests are accepted on an annual basis from qualified non-profit organizations providing direct services to children. Applications are due August 31 and determinations are made in mid-November.
